How to Boneless Gazelle

A 360 boneless with a varial, so the board does a 540. Taught by Tony Clark.

Watch on YouTube

My friend Tony Clark taught this one. It’s a 360 boneless with a varial, so the board does a 540. It’s a really fun trick.

Start with the boneless

If you can’t boneless yet, here’s the quick version from Tony. Set your front foot a little diagonal, almost parallel to the board. Your hand is already down to grab the board. Slide your front foot off, plant it, and bring the board up with your back foot. Do it all in one fluid motion. The boneless flip guide has more on keeping a boneless smooth.

Learn 360 bonelesses first

Wind up, slide your foot off, and catch the board on the way around as you spin. Get comfortable with 360 bonelesses first. Once you are, the next step is the varial.

Where to grab

For 360 bonelesses, you can grab wherever you want. It doesn’t matter. For the gazelle, grab up toward the nose, because it makes the varial easier. If you’re more comfortable grabbing somewhere else, try it.

The rest is about throwing your body around.

Landing it

Landing this trick is pretty difficult. The board is going to hit your feet a lot. Suck your feet up as high as you can, and throw the varial instead of just holding onto the board the whole way around.

Watch the slow-motion clips in the video. They explain the landing better than words can.

Boneless Gazelle FAQ

What is a boneless gazelle?

A 360 boneless with a varial. You spin a full 360 while the board does a varial, so it ends up doing a 540.

What should I learn before the boneless gazelle?

A boneless, then 360 bonelesses. Once 360s are comfortable, add the varial.

Where should I grab the board?

Toward the nose. On 360 bonelesses it doesn't really matter, but for the varial, grabbing up front makes it easier.
