How to Fakie Frontside Bigspin
A bigspin from fakie, spun frontside. Easy once you get past the blind part. Taught by Tony Clark.
My friend Tony Clark is really good at this one, so I had him teach it. Tony thinks it’s a pretty easy trick once you get past the blind part.
Before you start
Tony’s advice is to learn regular backside bigspins first. They’re easier. Frontside 180s are a must too.
Foot position
- Front foot: wherever you normally ride. It doesn’t do much here.
- Back foot: this is where the trick happens. It pushes the board around.
How to do it
- Roll fakie and wind up like you’re about to do a 180.
- Right as you start to pop, your shoulders should already be turning.
- Push the board around with your back foot. The board does the full spin while you do a 180.
- Keep your head looking the way you’re going, and commit to the 180.
- Catch it and land.
Tony likes to catch it and pivot the rest of the way around. You don’t have to do that, but he thinks it looks better and feels better.
Troubleshooting
Only your feet are spinning
The hardest part is turning 180 blindly. If you throw the board and only spin your feet, it won’t work very well. Your head and shoulders have to go with it. Look the way you’re going and commit.
What’s next
Once you have this one, the plasma spin is a fakie frontside bigspin with the board wrapped around your foot like an impossible.
