How to Nollie Backside 360 Shove It
A full 360 shove it popped off the nose. Deceptively easy and rarely seen.
This trick has a few names depending on who you ask. Freestylers might call it a 360 shove it, or a 360 shove it off the nose. The technical street name is the nollie backside 360 shove it. You might be tempted to call it frontside, but it’s technically backside. It’s a deceptively easy trick that you don’t see very often, but you can learn it in no time.
Foot position
- Back foot: somewhere your toes can hang off, so you can pull the tail around. That’s how the trick works. It helps me to have my heel on the tail, but it might work better for you on the bolts.
- Front foot: on the nose, ready to push it out.
How to do it
The pop isn’t really a pop or a scoop like a pop shove it. It’s a quick toss. It’s a low, quick spinning trick.
Each foot has a job:
- Your front foot controls where the board goes.
- Your back foot controls how much it spins.
- Push the nose out with your front foot to start it.
- Once the board starts spinning, throw it around with your back foot.
- Land on it.
Finding the balance between what each foot does can be tough.
Keep your shoulders straight
Since you’re jumping forward, it feels natural to face that way. The problem is, you face forward, push the board backside, and it turns you frontside, so you tend to land early. If you can’t get the full spin, it might not be that you’re not spinning it hard enough. Your body might just end up turned and you catch the board early. Keep your shoulders straight.
Troubleshooting
It lands way out in front of you
When I roll, I jump forward off the nose, and this trick does land out in front of you. A couple things help:
- Land in a pivot. That might happen naturally. The board spins around, you catch it and pivot around. That’s fine on this trick. It’s a good way to learn it and it looks fine.
- Fix your front foot. If the board is flying way out and you can’t catch up, it’s your front foot. You’re probably not spinning it enough with your front foot and throwing it too much with your back foot. Try to spin it more with your front foot, and work with different techniques until you find the balance.
Getting the full spin shouldn’t be too hard. Keeping the board with you is the main thing.
